The Federal Ministry of Finance has issued a notification of increase in petrol price late at night, a day after Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar Haq Kakar took oath of office.
The statement of the Federal Ministry of Finance said that the price of petrol has increased in the global market, as a result of which the price has been changed for Pakistani consumers.
The notification said that the new rates will be applicable from August 16, 2023.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the new price of petrol per liter has increased to Rs 290 45 paisa after an increase of Rs 17 50 paisa.
The price of diesel has been increased by Rs 20 per liter and the new price per liter is Rs 293 40 paise.
Earlier, on August 1, the recently-departed government had hiked the price of petrol.
Former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, while announcing the increase in prices, said that the government tried its best to put the minimum burden on the public due to the increase in the global market.
He said that the price of high speed diesel was increased by 19 rupees 90 paisa and the price of petrol was increased by 19 rupees 95 paisa.
He said that after the increase in the price of high-speed diesel, the price of petrol has increased to 273 rupees 40 paise and the new price of petrol has become 272 rupees 95 paise.
He said that during the last 15 days, the prices of petroleum products in the world market increased a lot. .
Ishaq Dar had said that on July 16, petrol per barrel was 89.14 dollars per barrel, which increased to 97.39 dollars.
It should be remembered that last month, the Federal Finance Minister had announced a reduction in the price of petrol by Rs 9 per liter and the price of diesel by Rs 7 per litre.
On July 1, the federal government did not change the price of petrol, but increased the price of diesel by 7 and a half rupees.
Earlier on June 15, it was announced to maintain the prices of petroleum products for the next fortnight.
