There is no money in the bank account, but the money came out of the ATM. How was this possible?
Have you ever had no money in your bank account but still managed to withdraw the amount you wanted from an ATM? Of course your answer will be no how is that possible.
But something similar happened in Ireland on Tuesday, where customers managed to withdraw more money from ATMs than they had in their bank.
What happened was that there was a technical glitch in the system of the central bank of Ireland 'Bank of Ireland' for a few hours due to which bank customers were able to withdraw money from ATMs despite having no money in their accounts.
In this regard, several videos and photos have gone viral on social media in Ireland, in which a large number of people can be seen standing in long queues outside ATMs.
Bank of Ireland says it experienced a technical glitch in the system on Tuesday which was fixed by Wednesday morning.
The bank warned its customers that anyone who took advantage of the technical glitch to withdraw money from their account will have the amount deducted from their account.
The bank further said that withdrawals made by customers on Tuesday night will appear in their accounts on Wednesday.
A spokesperson of the bank said on Wednesday morning that the bank's online app and all the bank's online services are working again.
A bank spokesperson said, "We are aware that due to a technical glitch, some customers were able to withdraw or transfer more than the amount in their account." These amounts or transfers will be reflected in their account statements today.
The bank has also apologized for this technical glitch.
On Tuesday, Irish police said they were aware of "unusual activity" outside some ATMs and "some irregularities involving financial institutions".
Reports on social media suggest that some customers have been able to transfer large sums of money from their Bank of Ireland accounts to other external accounts and then withdraw cash.
