پاکستان مسلم لیگ ن کے صدر شہبازشریف 201 ووٹ حاصل کرکے ملک کے نئے وزیراعظم منتخب ہوگئے، قائد ایوان کیلئے ان کا پی ٹی آئی کے رکن عمر ایوب خان کے ساتھ مقابلہ تھا جنہوں نے 92 ووٹ حاصل کیے، جے یو آئی ف کے اراکین ایوان میں نہیں آئے، بی این پی مینگل کے سربراہ اخترمینگل نے ووٹنگ کے عمل کا بائیکاٹ کیا جب کہ پختونخوا ملی عوامی پارٹی کے سربراہ محمود خان اچکزئی نے عمر ایوب خان کو ووٹ دیا۔تفصیلات کے مطابق سپیکر قومی اسمبلی ایاز صادق کی زیر صدارت وزیراعظم کے انتخاب کے لیے اجلاس ایک گھنٹہ تاخیر سے شروع ہوا، اجلاس کا آغاز تلاوت قرآن پاک سے ہوا جس کے بعد قومی ترانہ پڑھا گیا، اجلاس کے آغاز پر مسلم لیگ ن کے رکن اسمبلی جام کمال نے اسمبلی رکنیت کا حلف اٹھایا، سپیکر قومی اسمبلی ایاز صادق نے ان سے حلف لیا۔ بتایا جارہا ہے کہ اجلاس کے آغاز پر قومی اسمبلی میں سنی اتحاد کونسل اور ن لیگی اراکین آمنے سامنے آئے اور ایک دوسرے کے خلاف نعرے بازی کی، ن لیگی ارکان قومی اسمبلی نے نوازشریف کے پوسٹرز اٹھا رکھے تھے جب کہ سنی اتحاد کونسل کے اراکین نے بھی اپنے ہاتھوں میں بینرز اور عمران خان کی تصاویر اٹھا رکھی تھیں، اراکین نے سپیکر ڈائس کا گھیراؤ کرتے ہوئے چور چور کے نعرے لگائے جب کہ ن لیگ کے ارکان کی جانب سے گھڑی چور کے نعرے لگائے گئے۔معلوم ہوا ہے کہ سپیکر ایاز صادق نے وزیرِاعظم کے انتخاب کا طریقہ ایوان میں اراکین کو بتاتے ہوئے کہا کہ شہباز شریف کے حق میں ووٹ کے لیے ارکان دائیں طرف کی لابی اے میں جائیں جب کہ عمر ایوب کے حق میں ارکان لابی بی میں جائیں، اس کے بعد وزیرِ اعظم کے انتخاب کے عمل کا آغاز کردیا گیا، قائد ایوان کے انتخاب کے عمل کا آغاز ہونے کے بعد لابیز میں گھنٹیاں بجائی گئیں، 5 منٹ گھنٹیاں بجانے کے بعد ایوان کے دروازے بند کردیئے گئے، ووٹنگ مکمل ہونے پر سپیکر قومی اسمبلی کی موجودگی میں گنتی ہوئی اور گنتی مکمل ہونے پر سپیکر نے نئے وزیراعظم کا اعلان کردیا۔
