Researcher and scientist Mike Flannigan says that the causes of fires in the forests of California have not yet been determined, but according to him, power lines down due to strong winds will be the cause.
Power lines caused devastating wildfires in California in 2016 and 2017, after which Pacific Gas and Electric Co. was awarded $30 billion in damages and the company went bankrupt.

ماہرین کے مطابق خزاں میں چلنے والی ہواؤں کا وقت تبدیل ہوا اورسب سے پہلے شمال مشرق خشک اور گرم ہوائیں چلنا شروع ہوئیں جنھیں سانتا اینا ونڈز کہا جاتا ہے۔ یہ ہوائیں معمول سے ہٹ کر ڈیڑھ سو کلومیٹر فی گھنٹہ سے زائد رفتار سے چلیں جس کی وجہ سے شدید خشک سالی ہو گئی۔
جنگل میں ایندھن
بڑی وجہ یہ ہوئی گزشتہ دو موسمِ سرما میں نمی کی وجہ سے بڑے علاقے پر جو بے تحاشا خود رَو پودے اگ آئے تھے شدید گرمی میں وہ خشک ہو گئے یعنی بڑی مقدار میں ایندھن پہلے ہی وہاں موجود تھا۔ اس کے علاوہ یہاں سے کثیر تعداد میں بجلی کی لائنیں گزر رہی ہیں۔
ماہرین کا کہنا ہے کہ ان سب عناصر سے مل کر بھڑکنے والی جنگل کی آگ تیزی سے پھیل کر شہروں تک پہنچی ہے۔موسمِ سرما میں لگنے والی آگ سے زیادہ نقصان ہوتا ہے کیوں کہ اس موسم میں آگ تیزی سے پھیلتی ہے۔
تاہم ماضی کے مقابلے میں اس بار یہ آگ اس لیے بھی غیر معمولی ہے کہ عام طور پر سال کے اس حصے میں کیلی فورنیا کے جنگلات میں آتشزدگی کے واقعات پیش نہیں آتے۔ لیکن آگ بھڑکنے اور تیزی سے پھیلنے کے دیگر عناصر جمع ہو جانے کی وجہ سے سال کے اس حصے میں بھی جنگل جل رہے ہیں۔
ماحولیاتی تبدیلی، آتشزدگی کے 60 ہزار واقعات
آتشزدگی کی شدت گزشتہ چار دہائیوں کے دوران سب سے زیادہ بتائی جا رہی ہے۔
گزشتہ برس اکتوبر میں شائع ہونے والے بالچ کے ایک تحقیقی مقالے کے مطابق 2001 کے بعد سے آتشزدگی کے واقعات میں تیزی سے اضافہ ہوا ہے اور اب تک ایسے چھوٹے بڑے 60 ہزار واقعات ریکارڈ کیے گئے ہیں۔
انسان اپنی تباہی کا خود ذمہ دار
فائر سائنٹسٹ جون کیلے کا کہنا ہے کہ جنگلات کی آگ میں انسانوں کے پیدا کردہ محرکات کو نظر انداز نہیں کیاجاسکتا۔
ان کا کہنا ہے کہ آبادی کی بڑھتی ہوئی ضروریات بھی ماحولیاتی اور دیگر اہم تغیرات کو جنم دیتی ہیں۔ کیلی فورنیا کو بھی بڑھتی آبادی کا سامنا ہے۔
کیلے کے بقول زیادہ آبادی کا مطلب ہے کہ بجلی کی سپلائی بڑھانے کے لیے زیادہ سے زیادہ اقدمات کیے جائیں۔ اس کا سیدھا مطلب یہ ہو گا کہ بجلی کی لائنیں بڑھائی جائیں اور انہیں سے جنگلات میں آگ کے امکانات بڑھ جاتے ہیں۔
محقیق اور سائنس دان مائیک فلینیگن کا کہنا ہے کہ کیلی فورنیا کے جنگلات میں آگ بھڑکنے کے اسباب کا ابھی تعین نہیں ہوا ہے لیکن ان کے بقول تیز ہواؤں کے باعث گرنے والی بجلی کی لائنز ہی اس کا سبب نکلیں گی۔
بجلی کی لائنز کی وجہ سے 2016 اور 2017 میں کیلی فورنیا میں تباہ کن جنگلات کی آگ بھڑکی تھی جس کے بعد پیسیفک گیس اینڈ الیکٹرک کمپنی کو 30 ارب ڈالر کا ہرجانہ کیا گیا تھا اور کمپنی دیوالیہ ہوگئی تھی۔
